The Princess's Birthday!

Vasudha Jhunjhunwala is a special person. And she deserves to be treated so!

My house was buzzing with activity since 5pm on the 2nd of December. Her birthday was 5 days away, but we didn’t have the time. She was leaving on the 4th and so we decided to celebrate her birthday on the 2nd.

It’s not an easy task to plan a surprise party for a YES!+ teacher. The benchmarks around the world for such birthday parties are very high! If you ask around, you will hear amazing stories on what royal treatments YES!+ teachers get on their birthdays! So we needed to make sure we keep the tradition up!
So here was the plan – WE WILL COOK FOR HER!!

Whoever said too many cooks spoil the broth – was not doing sadhana regularly! The many cooks with their many ingredients and vessels poured into my house, and the aromas and the laughter arose, and the celebrations had started. One of the only birthday parties where the party started many hours before the birthday girl showed up! Vegetable cutting, peeling, music, jokes, Guru Stories all mixed together to create the perfect setting for an AOL bash!

By the time we finished, we were ready to feed a small army! For the first time after I left the US, I cooked – and to my relief – the pasta turned out to be decent!

Here was the menu:
Dish 1: Starters: Vegetable Cutlets (Shweta); Muthiyas (My Mom); Corn Salad( Neha Kothari)

Dish 2: Pizza (Sanjay Khandelwal); Pasta (Virat Chirania); Multigrain bread (Hyper-city;)

Dish 3: Neer Dosa (Smita)

Dish 4: Paneer Makhanwala (Shivangi); Rajma (Raghav); Tandoori Roti (Ruchi – that’s not a person but our default fast-food joint)

Dish 5: Jeera Rice; Tadka Dal (Neha Khandelwal)

Dish 6: Biryani (Mamta)

Dish 7: Custard (Aditi Rawat)

And in between all the dishes, the Princess received many gifts too! After each dish, the tables were cleared, and a gift was presented, and then the next dish appeared!

The Starters

Pizza and Pasta

And the gifts kept pouring in...

And there was LIVE MUSIC playing her favorite bollywood oldies.....

More food: Roti, Paneer Sabzi and Rajma (Raghav taking the credit for something which his mom actually cooked ;)

With Mamta - the head chef of the evening, and the Biryani-Maker!

More Gifts.....

And a special guest - HARSHAL PULEKAR!!
Harshal travelled all the way from Ghatkopar - and sang for us! After feeding him so much, we sat him down and we all sang some really nice and old hindi numbers late into the night!

My life (Our life) is more colorful because of YOU!!

WE LOVE YOU VASU!!

Jai Gurudev!

If being a princess means being loved, cared and pampered ,YES i was crowned (though only for a day) That's why I liked reading this post, as glories of the past help you look forward for a brighter future. Only one year to go:)

It was awesome, cant ask for more. I was so full(eating eating and eating and eating). In fact next day I felt i should have packed some stuff and eaten all those lovely things for next 7 days:)

Tnx a ton for making it so special.
Love you all
VJ.

Hi Vasu!

'Princess' an apt epithet indeed for someone as Royal as you :) The VnV team forgot to hint me about the surprise b'day treat they had in store for you, [explains my absence]and since you were going to Kolkatta, I'd planned to meet you after your return. Material gifts come with a lifespan thus I'd prefer to offer my true n loving friendship to you [yeah, this too could most likely have a span - but only at the body level - not the Soul :)]

Luv you always and may you have more of such royal birthdays!

God Bless!
